Cape Town firm agrees to buy Notwane

Notwane FC has become the new Premier League club to be privatised following its acquisition by Cape Town based, GMG Holdings, the club revealed at a press conference in Gaborone yesterday. GMG Holdings, which is owned by a Motswana, Kealeboga Gift Mogapi, owns the club with 80 percent shareholding.

Mogapi, who was unveiled to the media with his team at the press conference, however, would not be drawn into divulging full details of the partnership, saying they will be availed at the official launch on a date to be announced soon.He told journalists that in addition to maintaining the football culture at the club, they aim to resource it adequately to be able to compete at the highest level and establish the club as a business brand in the country and beyond. He said they had been deliberating with Notwane (Pty) Ltd with the sole objective of harnessing a business relationship that would help resurrect the club. He said looking at the club's performance over the past seasons, there was a high likelihood that investors would shy away from the club, but they took a calculated risk to make a contribution and help the club.

He said they are interested in structuring the club to be a leading example in terms of professionalism. To start with, Mogapi said no player would be allowed to play without a contract and they "will ensure players are paid well and on agreed time". The boss added that they intend to bring back glory days to the club, develop, retain and attract quality players to Notwane. Notwane has in the past developed some quality players only for them to be snatched by other teams. The recent quality players from the club include the Moloi brothers Pontsho and Dirang, Galabgwe Moyana and Mpoeleng Mpoeleng.
