BPOPF fights pensioner

FRANCISTOWN: The Botswana Public Officers Pension Fund (BPOPF) has moved to the Court of Appeal to challenge the decision of the High Court in the case of a former headteacher's pension bid.

A few weeks ago, Justice Mpaphi Phumaphi directed the BPOPF, together with Alexander Forbes Financial Services and Teaching Service Management (TSM) to pay 68-year-old Botsane George a third of his total benefits as at August 31, 2008, reckoned from March 1, 2002 when he joined the BPOPF.

At the time, George was suing Alexander Forbes Financial Services jointly with TSM and BPOPF. George claimed that he had been cheated out of his over P1 million pension benefits. He claimed that he joined the pension scheme in 1974 until 2008 when he retired from teaching.
