BPC has been cheating Batswana - cllrs

FRANCISTOWN: Councillors here lambasted the Botswana Power Corporation (BPC) for scarcity of electricity and high power billsp at the just ended full council meeting last Friday. Speaking before officials from the power utility, councillors argued that the new pre-paid system has shown that the corporation has been cheating consumers for years.

They said that Batswana have been paying expensive bills which they did not know were estimates. Councillor Tabengwa Tabengwa cried, "You mentioned that Francistown owes more than P6 million. How did you get to that money if you are saying that you have been estimating?"   Another councillor Shadreck Nyeku claimed that Morupule B is not going to be ready in August as promised by the BPC.

"I can assure you it will not be ready because the company that you put there, China National Electric Equipment Company, is not qualified for the job. Batswana would have started benefitting from Morupule B at the beginning of 2012 but because of this Chinese company here we are today," he said. Mbaki Khwarae, senior customer service officer at BPC, explained that the country faces scarcity of electricity.
