Botswana to host elephant summit

Botswana will host the third African Elephant Summit in early December, President Ian Khama has announced.

Addressing delegates to the African Ministerial Conference on the Environment in Gaborone last Wedenesday, President Khama said the summit would allow African countries to discuss and share on issues relating to illegal trade of elephants.

He expressed concern about the rise of illegal wildlife trade that threatens to overturn conservation gains made over many years, particularly poaching of elephants for ivory in Botswana.
