The president of the Botswana National Front Youth League (BNFYL) Tona Mooketsi has expressed shock at learning that his deputy Tona Selala is acting president of the league through the media.

The Kgatleng District Council (KDC) chairman told Mmegi, "we have never agreed that he should act".  Selala reportedly announced at a recent press conference that former African National Congress Youth League (ANCYL) president Julius Malema and South Africa's Sports Minister Fikile Mbalula, will be guests at the youth league congress scheduled for May.

Mooketsi has distanced himself from the invitation of Malema and Mbalula. He argued that Malema is no longer a member of the ANC.  He said that Selala should have directly invited the ANC, not the duo. "The party comes first, then individuals," he said.  He said inviting the duo is unethical, unprincipled and immature. He revealed that he only delegated Selala to announce resolutions taken by the central committee at a past media briefing. He said Arafat Khan, BNFYL  secretary general, was delegated to work on contacts of fraternal friends to be invited to the congress. He said he was shocked to find a lobby list comprising of Khan and Selala for the next congress where they allocated themselves positions "we never agreed upon".
