BNF makes more rigging claims

Opposition claims of rigging in the Letlhakeng West parliamentary by-election took a new turn this week when the Botswana National Front (BNF) added social workers, youth and land board officials to the list of those being used by the ruling party to win the seat.

Speaking at a press conference at Oasis Motel in Tlokweng, BNF coordinator for the by-election, Mohammed Khan, said the Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) is using government services and the said officials to lure voters.
"I am informed that social welfare workers are given authority to register people for food rations on condition of changing allegiance from the BNF to the BDP," Khan said in a statement.

"Normally they would wait for the financial year-end for them to register people after looking at the vote given to that department, but in this case, people are issued with cards immediately just to lure people into supporting them."
