The Botswana National Front (BNF) publicity secretary, Moeti Mohwasa has expressed confidence that they will retain the Kgalagadi North parliamentary seat despite the odds.

A by-election will be held in the constituency following the resignation of the BNF MP, Obakeng Moumakwa. Kgalagadi North is one of the opposition held constituencies that is being targeted by the ruling Botswana Democratic Party (BDP).

The constituency is not safe for the BNF because it is in a traditional BDP stronghold. In the 2004 general elections Moumakwa won the seat with a slim margin of 77 votes, ahead of Mokgelele Zol Moapare of the BDP and whether the BNF can perform another great escape act remains to be seen.
