The leadership of Botswana Movement for Democracy (BMD) has abided by the Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC) requirements to step down and hold fresh congress.

The BMD will hold both youth and mother body congress on December 3.

“It is true, the BMD National Executive Committee (NEC) met and made a resolution on the matter on Saturday at Mochudi. Of course, we might not like the decision of the UDC, but the BMD remains a member of UDC and is forced to abide by the decision and the constitution of it. We cannot have two separate congresses, as it would be expensive for the party. Therefore, both youth and party congress will be held in December at Lobatse. The party needs around P2.5 million to hold the congress,” BMD spokesperson Rasina Rasina said.
