FRANCISTOWN: Senior officials of the Botswana Movement for Democracy (BMD) are in the dark about Raoboy Mpuang's interest in the Francistown West parliamentary by-election. The party has said it is not aware that the Monarch East councillor is already campaigning for the seat left vacant by the death of Tshelang Masisi of the ruling Botswana Democratic Party (BDP).

BMD secretary general, Wynter Mmolotsi, has disclosed that should Mpuang officially declare his interest in contesting the by-election, they will have to engage the Botswana Peoples Party (BPP) to seek their permission. The BPP was allocated the Francistown West constituency by parties grouped under the Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC). The umbrella partners are the BMD, BPP and the Botswana National Front (BNF). "Mpuang is yet to approach the party (BMD) to officially declare his interest to contest the polls to replace Masisi," Mmolotsi said.

"However, should Mpuang want to contest the by-election in the area we will (BMD) have to engage the BPP," he explained.
