FRANCISTOWN: The Botswana Meat Commission (BMC) has warned an employee of dire consequences if he proceeds with plans to hand over a petition by staff to President Ian Khama on April 5.

BMC spokesman, Tiro Kganela said that whatever Gabriel Joshua is telling the media is not true and if he continues with plans for the petition, he will put his job at risk and get himself in trouble because he is not following laid down procedures. Kganela denied knowledge of the petition that Joshua said 169 employees are planning to hand over to Khama through the Francistown District Commissioner's office.Joshua told Mmegi that the petition will touch on staff welfare issues, corruption at BMC and underpayment of BMC employees compared to other parastatals.

"We are not aware that there is a petition that will be handed over and BMC has a union that represents employees and this man does not even belong to it," Kganela said. He said that if Joshua has a problem, then he should go through proper channels like every other employee. Joshua has tried to register a second union for BMC employees but failed. Kganela said that whatever Joshua is telling the media is not true. "There is no way he has all those employees in agreement with him about the petition. Not even 10 people," he said. Joshua has told Mmegi that he has the numbers to present the petition."Please be informed that we are handing a petition letter to His Excellency President of the Republic on 5th April 2013 at 1600hrs, to the District Commissioner at Ntshe House (sic)," he says in a letter to employees.
