BIRRO calls gov�t to provide lawyers to all accused persons

The chairperson of Botswana Institute of Rehabilitation and Reintegration of Offenders (BIRRO), Mothei Sejakgomo has called on the government to provide all accused persons with lawyers regardless of the weight of the crimes.

In an interview with Mmegi on Wednesday, Sejakgomo pointed that Legal Aid is provided only to murder accused persons, as they are said to be ‘big’ crimes whilst those of other crimes such as rape, theft and others are neglected.

He therefore appealed to the government to make a balance and provide all accused persons with lawyers so that they could be given fair trial.
