BIH facilities on course - Swartz

Infrastructure works for the Botswana Innovation Hub (BIH) Science and Technology Park should be completed during this current year, the Minister of Infrastructure, Science and Technology Johnnie Swartz told Parliament yesterday.

The minister said this as he proposed a budget of over P420 million for his ministry for the 2012-2013 financial year. The combined budget proposal comprises P348 million for recurrent budget and P75 million for development budget.

The minister revealed that the design and construction of the buildings, laboratories and other tailor-made facilities for rental by the public and private sector has been delayed due to the legal challenges against the Botswana Development Corporation (BDC), which is the assigned project manager for the construction of infrastructure for the hub. It is anticipated that upon the resolution of these issues, the design and construction of the planned facilities can resume in a phased manner, the minister said.
