BHC goes ahead with developments

The spokesperson of the Botswana Housing Corporation (BHC), Mookodi Seisa, says the corporation plans to go ahead with the development of the 52-hectare land they were allocated in the Kgatleng area, despite residents' resistance.

Last week Seisa told The Monitor that the BHC has not received any official communication about Bakgatla's unhappiness with the corporation's plans to develop flats in the area. "As far as we know, we have been legally and procedurally allocated land by the Kgatleng Land Board. Once we are ready to develop in the area, we will move forward," he said.   Bakgatla have questioned the allocation of the land between Bokaa, Morwa and Pilane.

They have queried the rationale to allocate land to the BHC ahead of residents who have been on the landboard's waiting list for years. The BHC was allocated land in November 2010, the PRO of the Kgatleng Landboard, Dominic Shaba, has been quoted as saying.  Residents of the villages concerned say they have been on the waiting list since 1992. The Kgatleng land authority has disclosed that residents of Morwa have lodged a formal complaint with the authority to intervene on their behalf. The authority expects residents of Bokaa to lodge theirs as well.
