Speaking at the BDP's 58th National Council on Saturday, President Mokgweetsi Masisi said an essential pre-requisite to unity and its consolidation is unbridled discipline.
The BDP national council is held under the theme, 'Unity and Consolidation'. “We must be disciplined in our talk, what we write and exchange, and the impression created is how we win elections. It goes without saying that sustaining the stability and survival of the BDP depends on its capacity as a political organisation to work as a unified entity. By no means does this preclude diversity of thought as the BDP is not a monolithic party.
Rather, this our great organisation, should nurture critical engagement but not at the expense of unity,” Masisi said. He further said disunity should not have any stake in the party. In addition, he said the "true genius of the BDP is its stability to maximise collective unity in the face of serrated, and at times, unforgiving political terrain".
Moreover, the BDP president said they had in 2019 promised Batswana inclusivity, unity, integrity, truthfulness, directness, innovation, peace, and freedom. He added: “We remain steadfast to this covenant and assure you that the BDP and the BDP-led government will do everything in its power to assist Batswana to have a meaningful share in their economy.
We stride in policy reform; land reforms, digitisation and economic inclusion, all aimed at bringing positive impact on the livelihoods of Batswana.” On the issue of opposition, he said it could not be trusted with power and the responsibility to govern the country.
He said it has become evident in all past and failed experimentation that opposition is far from being a viable alternative. He said they have hardly kept anything together for much longer before it all collapses like a house of cards. He added running a government and country could not be risked with the opposition. "We remain the only choice that matters to Motswana," he said.
