The Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) has set February 4 as the date for the primary elections for the Tlokweng by-election. The post of MP fell vacant after the area MP, Same Bathobakae of the Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC) died last year.

The BDP has done well in some of the by-elections where it fielded a compromise candidate.
