BDP releases Bulela Ditswe time-table

The ruling Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) has released a time-table for primary elections (Bulela Ditswe) in constituencies currently held by the opposition parties. BDP deputy executive secretary Fidelis Molao says they will only hold the primaries for parliamentary seats, as they would not want to destabilise their cadres in council elections.

"Our fear is that if we hold ward elections, that might destabilise the party particularly when a sitting councillor is defeated in primary elections and such a person may not participate in activities for the national election," said Molao.

The time-table indicates that elections in the 13 constituencies held by the opposition - 12 by the Botswana National Front (BNF) and one for Botswana Congress Party (BCP) will take place on December 8 this year.  The constituencies are Gaborone South, Gaborone Central, Gaborone West North, Gaborone West South, Lobatse, Kanye South, Kanye North, Ngwaketse West, Kgalagadi North, Letlhakeng West, Letlhakeng East, South East North, and Kgatleng East.
