BDP ouster plot thickens at SEDC

The ruling Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) is poised to regain control of the South East District Council (SEDC) today when council chairman Daniel Kgosiemang faces a vote of no confidence.

The BDP has a majority in the SEDC following the defection of Haggie Isaacs from the Botswana Congress Party (BCP) back to the ruling party.

After the defection, the ruling party's numbers at the SEDC have increased to 12 councillors while the combined Botswana National Front (BNF) and BCP strength is 11. Yesterday, the BDP's attempt to topple Kgosiemang and regain control of the SEDC floundered on a technicality.
