BDP makes bid for Gaborone South

The Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) is expected to field Gaborone nominated councillor, Kagiso Molatlhegi as a candidate for the Gaborone South 2009 parliamentary elections.

The constituency has eluded the BDP for more than 20 years. The BDP is planning to call primary elections in December for the 13 constituencies held by the opposition parties.
Gaborone South is included amongst the targeted constituencies that the BDP wants to capture from the opposition.

According to sources in the BDP, Molatlhegi, a novice at politics will stand unopposed in the primaries.  However, when he was contacted, Molatlhegi said he was barred by the party's primary election regulations to declare his interest in the  constituency before vetting.
