BDP abandons SEDC ouster plot

Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) councillors have backed down after their attempts to oust South East District Council (SEDC) chairman Daniel Kgosiemang and his deputy Phaladi Segokgo floundered.

The councillors tried unsuccessfully to kick-out the Botswana Congress Party (BCP) duo and take control of the council twice through a motion of no confidence this week. The motions held up proceedings of the council meeting though they failed because of procedural reasons with indications that the BDP councillors are planning to continue with the onslaught.

They vowed that the council meeting will not go on before the ouster motion is dispensed with. However, Kgosiemang and Segokgo finally got a reprieve when the mover of the motion, Newton Molefe abandoned his ouster intentions and proposed that the council meeting should proceed with normal business.
