The Botswana Defence Force is reported to have sold two of its CASA CN235M transport aircraft to Fayard Enterprises of Wake Forest, North Carolina at US$ 1.8 million per unit.

In an interview with Mmegi, BDF spokesperson Major Fana Maswabi said that the aircrafts were sold in 2011, after they began giving them challenges due to their flight hours, since they required constant maintenance.

When asked if BDF plans to get rid of old equipment and buy new ones, Maswabi responded: "Not necessarily, acquisition of military equipment is done as and when there is a need, depending on the availability of funds."  He said currently, the BDF does not have any intention of purchasing new aircraft.
