BCL plans sulphuric acid plant

Copper and nickel mining company, BCL, is in talks with Japanese firm, Itochu to establish a sulphuric acid processing plant.

 Vice President Dr Ponatshego Kedikilwe told Parliament recently that the two companies are working on a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), which will result in the Japanese company harvesting sulphuric emissions from the BCL Mine in Selebi-Phikwe.

The harvested emissions will then be turned into sulphuric acid to be used in bleaching of uranium.Botswana expects to start mining uranium in the Serule area in two years time. Sulphuric acid is used in the production of almost all manufactured goods.
