BCL, BMWU go for mediation

SELEBI-PHIKWE: Botswana Mine Workers Unions (BMWU) and BCL mine are to go for mediation after reaching a deadlock in their negotiations.

The union wants 12 percent increment across the board while BCL has presented three options. The mine has proposed a five percent increment across the board plus P80 housing allowance; six percent across the board without housing allowance; and a sliding rate. BMWU Selebi-Phikwe branch secretary Moffat Ramokate confirmed that the negotiations have reached a deadlock and that the union will soon register a case with the Department of Labour for mediation.

“Either parties can register a case with the Department of Labour for mediation. We met our membership on Monday who adopted our committee’s stance and gave us the go ahead to go for mediation.
