The residents complain that patrons of the two joints do not only drink in public but also play loud music from their cars. Last week, the residents submitted a petition to the Gaborone City Council (GCC), complaining about the two liquor establishments.

Leading the campaign for the residents is Ohetotse Mpotokwane, who stays just a stone's throw away from the shopping complex. Mpotokwane told Monitor that they have never known peace in their neighbourhood since the two outlets started operating. "We don't sleep over the weekend unless if we call in the police. The police even recognise our voices on the phone because we are always reporting," he said, adding that at times the police would plead with the patrons.
