Baby in a dustbin at IHS

A baby boy was discovered dumped in the girls' bathrooms wrapped in his placenta at the Gaborone Institute of Health Sciences yesterday. A woman, who is also a cleaner at the institution, discovered the unfortunate baby around lunchtime yesterday when she was doing her rounds of taking the girls' used pads.

She explained that when she pulled out the refuse bag from the dustbin it was heavy which was unusual. "I just thought the girls were drinking over the weekend and put some bottles in there. I opened only to find an adult's panties inside and when I removed them I saw a baby's hand and ran out to call people for help," said the woman, who requested anonymity.  She explained that the women who were outside called the matron who called the police.

"The baby was wrapped in a placenta and covered by the mothers' panties," the woman explained. While students and staff were trying to get a glimpse, there was some debate as to whether the baby was dumped by a student or someone who planted the baby there to frame the students. "You will never know it could be someone who wanted to divert the attention to the students or this students, they know everything about childbirth," chipped in an old woman.
