The Broadhurst magistrates' court has sentenced Ramoapei Molale to five years imprisonment for blasting the Stanbic Bank Auto Teller Machine (ATM) at Mowana Park Shopping Complex in Phakalane in March this year.

Molale and two others, Hama Mapine and Kesebonye Male, are said to have used explosives to destroy the ATM in March this year.  The two did not plead guilty. Molale, who walks with the support of a stick, was shot in the leg when the police opened fire on them and was arrested immediately. The police had been tipped off and lay in an ambush for the robbers who came after midnight.

The court heard that before the ATM blasting Molale had just been released from prison after serving a sentence for armed robbery and had promised his parents that he would never engage in criminal activities again. Magistrate Nehemiah Moguni expressed disgust at Molale's conduct saying he seems to relish grabbing other people's property by force.
