Alleged Property 'Grabber' Attacks Relative

A 52-year old Mochudi man is living in fear after he was repeatedly attacked by a violent relative who tried to grab a deceased couple's property.

Kabelo Segobaetsho, who works for the Kgatleng District Council, says he was violently attacked by one Kamogelo Mantswe over the past three weeks, injuring him in the process. Segobaetso, who is an albino, told Monitor in an interview how in the first incident on October 27, Mantswe came to his yard and started insulting him and his wife before attacking him with stones and stabbing him with a knife in the back. He said he reported the case to the police in Mochudi, and Mantswe was arrested and released after a day in custody as the police said they could not detain him for more than 48 hours. He said the police released Mantswe despite his plea to them to keep him locked up as he had threatened to kill him. Mantswe, who is reported to be a bully and habitual offender, was on bail for a different court case at the time he attacked and threatened to kill Segobaetso.

The terrified Segobaetso narrated how Mantswe continued to harangue him after being released by the police. " Last week he came looking for me and I was not at home, I heard he was with his parents, who encouraged him to find me and kill me," he said.
