In less than 26 days, delegates from around the world will gather for the 19th session of the Conference of Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP 19) in Warsaw, Poland to chart the way forward on the modalities of a climate change agreement.

To that end, African environment ministers and experts have gathered in Gaborone for a two-day conference to agree on the continents' position on issues of climate change.

Speaking at the opening of the conference yesterday, the Director and Regional Representative for Africa at the United Nations Environment Programme, Mounkaila Goumandakoye, said the meeting was coming at a time when the world was grappling with many challenges, among them climate change, rural poverty, food insecurity, malnutrition and environmental degradation.
