Accused soldier to know his psych results next week

FRANCISTOWN: A 22-year-old soldier who allegedly killed his two young children last month will know the result of his state of mind on Friday.

Last month a magistrate court here ruled that the accused person, Thebe Njavera, be sent for psychiatric analysis. When Njavera appeared before court on Friday, the prosecution told Magistrate Sijabuliso Siziba that the doctor who was supposed to have examined Njavera was indisposed for the past few days, hence the delay in performing the psychiatric analysis.

The prosecutor, Alexander Phale from the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP) disclosed that the doctor only managed to examine Njavera last Thursday. He then applied that Njavera, who is based at Botswana Defence Force (BDF) barracks in Donga, to be further remanded in jail pending the release of the results of the psychiatric analysis. Asked if he had anything to say about his further detention in jail as applied by the prosecution, Njavera responded: "I want to be given bail."
