16 months project takes four years to complete

It was scheduled to take just 16 months to complete, but the treasury cashier office and staff houses at Serowe is now in its fourth year and counting with no completion in sight.

Initially the 16 months project was tendered for P33 million, but early 2012, when its audit was done by the auditor general, the Serowe project had burnt P51,346,707, and the Auditor General remarked he feared the final project will most likely be in excess of this amount.

Meanwhile a similar project in Francistown, initially awarded for P25 million, ended up gobbling up and extra P32 million from government due to costs escalation that led to the project shooting up by over 100 percent.
