Comedy lovers packed the Avani Hotel on Thursday night for what turned out to be three hours of pure brilliance with acts delivering everything that was promised; laughter and unforgettable moments.

The booked comedian mesmerised the crowd as part of the ongoing Gaborone International Music and Culture (GIMC) week-long festivities. The night, however, truly belonged to one rising star, local comedian Vha Lyod. The young funnyman, who was making his third appearance on the GIMC stage, proved that he is a force to be reckoned with. His 15-minute skit, filled with childhood stories told in his signature humorous style, had the Avani crowd in fits of laughter and endless cheers. The performance was so strong that veteran comic Phenyo the Master, who was slated to perform, conceded the stage altogether. It was a rare and powerful acknowledgment of just how much Vha Lyod had owned the night. Beyond the stage, Vha Lyod is already well-known to many as a TikTok sensation, where his quick-witted skits have earned him a loyal following. But last night, under the spotlight of the GIMC stage, he showed he’s more than just a social media star, but also a live performer capable of commanding a room with ease. For three hours, the venue was filled with laughter but if there was one name on everyone’s lips as the night ended, when the lights came back on, it was undoubtedly Vha Lyod.
