In the heart of Kanaku settlement, a unique sporting phenomenon has emerged, captivating the hearts of the San community. The Tswana Horse Race challenge, which started as a humble entertainment event at Mopako Ranch, has evolved into a beloved occasion, attracting enthusiasts from surrounding areas.

The community's love of horses is deeply ingrained in its culture, with many residents relying on the majestic animals for daily tasks, such as herding livestock.

Mopako Ranch owner, Kagiso Mopako, who initiated the event, says he was inspired by the community's passion for horses. "The San community are natural horse riders, and I realised they needed exposure," he said. "They have the potential to become comfortable with the saddle, and with the right training, they could become professional horse jockeys, recognised worldwide," he stated. He added that there are several skilled young riders in Kanaku whose skills need further polishing.
