The show is hosted by Triccs, through the Gaborone Comedy Club and is making its third-year return since it was first hosted in 2023. The show will be held on January 31 at the Cresta Hotel in Gaborone from 7:30pm to 10pm. The organisers of the event have promised a bigger and better installment this year compared to the previous years. In an interview with Arts&Culture, the birthday man and also the event coordinator, Triccs, said he will headline the event while Jonny Pula, Boldwin Bals and Bambino will perform as supporting acts. “Comedy is for the people, not a specific group because laughter is medicine so anyone above the age of 18 is invited. The four Gaborone Comedy Club comedians will be gracing the stage but we expect to have surprise guests from Zimbabwe and South Africa who have not been confirmed yet,” he said.
However, he stated that it was very normal for some people to be skeptical to attend shows in fear of being mocked saying they should always understand that it is just comedy. He added that the Gaborone Comedy Club comedians try by all means to be respectful to the audience and not make them feel attacked. He also said besides coming to get a dose of medicine, which is laughter, coming to the show helps grow the creative sector in Botswana, especially for a small industry like comedy, saying it gives hope to the comedians. He further stated that comedy has grown exponentially over the past 10 years in Botswana, saying it had become one of the most consumed forms of entertainment online and physically.
It is not uncommon in this part of the world for parents to actually punish their children when they show signs of depression associating it with issues of indiscipline, and as a result, the poor child will be lashed or given some kind of punishment.
