The Motswako Republic Tour, a series of Motswako-themed events, is aimed at celebrating and observing the 20th Anniversary of some of Motswako’s Classic Albums: YBA2NW by HHP, Mafoko Ame by Tuks and Maru A Pula by Morafe and the 15th Anniversary of Insert Coin by Notshi as well as the 10th Anniversary of 20Fifi by Fifi Cooper. According to Lerothodi ‘Towdeemac’ Moagi, the tour will kick off in Gaborone, which is where the Motswako sound and culture first began to penetrate the market. “Botswana is also where the Motswako audience is still more attentive to Motswako Content than here at home in the North West province where Motswako was born,” Moagi said. The tour will start off in Gaborone with three events from Friday to Sunday on the said weekend.
The main event to be held on June 28 at Tounel will be hosted by Scar. The Motswakolistas include Morafe, Tuks, Molemi, Fifi Cooper, Lection, Notshi, Hash One and Huge Da Oracle from South Africa. Local heavyweights Zeus, Veezo View and Rockafella will represent Botswana rappers. On the decks will be Dj Coco, Dj Fauz and Dj Greasy Thumb. Tickets are sold at P300, with the P200 early bird tickets now sold out. For the Friday event at House of Habanos, named the pre party, Towdeemac and Lection from South Africa will be joined by Jackalass One Tym, Megokgo, Sedidi Escobar alongside DJ Fauz and DJ Greasy Thumb.
