The small township of Sowa will be buzzing on July 13 when the Sowa Music Festival and Family Picnic takes place at Sowa Town Council Stadium.

The event, organised by Thabo Mmetli and Thabo Segalo, promises bottomless fun and entertainment for the community. In an interview with Segalo, he said the event caters to mature, loving, fashionable and just good company. He added that the inspiration came after realising that DJs from Sowa and nearby places such as Nata, Dukwi and Tutume did not get much recognition and booking in the mainstream events. He said the idea is to give them the platform to showcase their talent. He added that they also want to give small businesses a boost.

He stated that they decided to add popular local acts such as Chef Gustos, Chokoma, Baxon and DJ Maputo. The MCs for the day are Mtizah and MC Uncledipopae and DJ Bars. “Since this is the first event of its kind, we have engaged a reputable security company to provide security, so we promise that security will be very tight. Bring your cooler boxes and camp chairs to the event. We wish to grow this event so that we are able to host it at various locations around the country to showcase the local talent,” Segalo said. He called on Batswana to go in large numbers to the event in order to make it a success. Tickets for the event sell for P100 single and P180 double while they go for P150 at the entrance.
