Uncle Dipopae has come up with another event dubbed R’n’B & Soul Picnic Saturdays, which targets the mature audience who love the soulful sounds of RnB.

He told Arts&Culture they wanted to create an event that moves away from the House and Amapiano music genres which commonly dominates local music events playlists. He added that they want to see the crowd come alive and sing along to good music. He said its intention is to give R’n’B and Soul lovers an experience of a lifetime. “The event will feature Fatshman from South Africa, Lez, Dragie, Wolfdawg, Amie Dee DeepSoul and Ashanti while Kitso Phologa will be the master of ceremonies. We have heard them play the type of genre that we solely want to listen to at the event, which is the classic. We aim to host every last Saturday of the month where ticket sales would be sold at P50 per ticket and P60 at the gate. Tickets are available at the Library bar in Kanye, Webtickets outlets, Choppies and Spar countrywide,” he said.

Uncle Dipopae added that the event aims to uplift the entertainment industry in Kanye and bring people together as they aim to feature artists from all surrounding areas of Kanye even from as far as Mahikeng. He said the venue bar would sell alcoholic and soft beverages. He added that all types of alcohol are allowed into the venue except quarts. He also said cooler boxes were free up to 6pm thereafter would be paying P30. Uncle Dipopae also said they partnered with Botswana Police Service for security as well as their local bouncer company. However, Uncle Dipopae explained that they were facing some challenges such as a lack of venues around Kanye as they were carrying a hefty price tag. The event will be hosted at Mokhasi Gardens (Mmamokhasi, Kanye) on March 1, 2025. Food stalls are sold at P500, tailors at P500, hubbly at P500. Other stalls are said to be free and the youth are encouraged to take advantage of that opportunity.

Let’s fight GBV as a collective

Botswana for the longest time was known for her virulent peace with family being an enviable institution. As the media, we are also scared to be incessantly reporting on these bloody scenes where women are brutally murdered and worse, sometimes in front of their children and loved ones. Yes, we have reported cases where men were also brutally murdered by their loved ones, but such cases are a drop in the ocean. For the past two weeks, Botswana was...
