The year 2024 continues to be good for many Batswana competing on the international stage. This is after yet another Motswana, Odirile Kabomo, emerged victorious at the Nando’s International Grillers’ Challenge held in Kasane recently.

After scooping first position locally in the two-day competitions that were held at Nando’s African Mall and Main Mall respectively, Kabomo had the chance to represent the blue, black and white country at the Nando’s International Grillers Challenge. As the local master griller, Kabomo went toe-to-toe with top grillers from over 27 markets where he got to showcase exceptional skills and creativity that earned him the coveted title of the 2024 international master griller of the year. With over 27 markets descending in Botswana for the competition, Kabomo made sure that the crown stayed home as Botswana hosted the competition for the first time on an international level. Kabomo shared that it was not a walk in the park to pull it off. Despite the fierce competition he faced, he never lost focus on the prize.

“The competition was not really easy but under the name of grace, everything started to look up for me. All the best grillers were there and I had to show that I am capable,” Kabomo said. He further shared that his win did not really take him by surprise because he believed in himself and knew that the price is up for anyone to take. “I have a lot of belief in myself and what I always tell myself is that I am born ready for any competition or challenge in life,” he said. Kabomo revealed that upon hearing the judges announce him as a winner, he felt like he was dreaming looking at the competition he had. “I could not believe that I won because everyone there was the best and I won against them so you can imagine,” he said excitingly.
