After securing a place in the Miss World 2017 Top 40, Miss Botswana Nicole Gaelebale along with other hopefuls lost to India’s Manushi Chhillar, who won the coveted title on Saturday in Sanya, China.

Gaelebale qualified for the Top 40 after competing against 118 contestants from all over the world for a place in Saturday’s finale. Although she did Botswana proud by making it to the finale, Gaelebale was not fortunate enough to make it to the Top 15, Top 10 and final Top Five. Gaelebale was amongst the only five African countries that made it to the Top 40. Nigeria made it as far as the Top 15, while South Africa made it into the Top 10 and Kenya into the final Top 5.

The last Miss Botswana to come close to the title was the 2010 first runner up, Emma Wareus.  After the crowning, Gaelebale was quick to congratulate Chhillar on her Facebook page and thanked Batswana for the support.
