Euri launches franchise store Urban Soul

Following in international artists’ footsteps like Jay Z, Kanye West, and P Diddy who are not only musical icons, but also business moguls, local rapper Euri has entered the fray.

He recently announced that he is the new owner of a clothing store, Urban Soul, situated at the Railpark mall.

Born Tebogo Motsie, Euri who first burst into the scene with the stage name, Eureka Tha Coverboy, told Showbiz this week that over and above being a musician he is also a reputable businessman.

He said that when he signed with his label Rock The City, the agreement was that he would not only be their recording artist, but also a business partner.

“My relationship with Rock The City is quite interesting.   I am a recording artist, but I also come in as a businessman.  When the opportunity presented itself that I become a franchise owner of Urban Soul, formally known as Mafia Soul, I invested,” he explained.

“I own the store with my wife, Bonolo Motsie.  It is a very exciting time for us.  This is what we have always wanted to do,” he said.

Euri signed with Rock The City at the time when the record label and its former artist, Dramaboi were airing their laundry in the media.

His newly formed relationship with the record label was overshadowed by the highly publicised and ugly divorce from Dramaboi.  The record label was crucified for allegedly not allowing the Candy hitmaker to explore his talents further.

Allegations were, however, quashed by the record label in previous interviews with this reporter.  Dramaboi then went on his social media pages ranting about the record label, and their new artist, Euri.

When quizzed about this and if it affected his career, the man who has since released only one song under the label, dubbed Life And Struggle, said, “I am not qualified to answer any questions concerning the relationship between my record label and their artist, whether past or present”.

The Mosadi hitmaker vaguely said: “I do know only from media reports that Dramaboi was too to get a franchise.   I do not know how true that is, but what I can say is I signed a different contract than that of Dramaboi.  With us it's more of a partnership whilst Dramaboi’s was more of artist/label type of relationship”.

“I do not have any beef with Dramaboi, I think he is a talented artist,” said Euri when asked why he did not respond to accusations thrown at him by Dramaboi in the past.

Euri, however, confirmed that he has been working on his first album under the label set to be released mid next year.
