Larona Gasennelwe, otherwise known as DJ Zoski, recently released a new single titled ‘Calvary’. Born and raised in Kanye, this qualified SHE officer describes himself as a musician at heart.

DJ Zoski said he started working on his single 'Calvary' in December 2023. He explained that it is a three-step rhythm. He further pointed out that Biblically, Calvary is a hill where Jesus was crucified.

He added that when one listens to the song, the melody has dimensions. He added that the single is a work in progress towards his upcoming EP. "But at the moment I'm enjoying this massive single. It is difficult to command inspiration in oneself. For me, it just comes from me, whether it is a set I am going to play or a new song.

For this particular song, my motivation stemmed from wanting to communicate my journey of growing closer to God. With the music industry constantly evolving, it is also important to keep up with the times. The song was produced last year in Kanye at One Night Studio produced by De Rantlhas BW and myself," he explained.

Furthermore, he pointed out that he also produced a single a few years ago called Shoberr Touch, which is available online. He featured Era Boy and Amen Brio. DJ Zoski also said he is working on a 13-track album which will be released on October 4, 2024. Additionally, DJ Zoski said he does not limit himself as he is versatile.

He said he played all music genres from Amapiano, commercial house , Afro Tech, deep/soulful music to Hip hop and Rnb. He said he is able to 'work his magic' with any genre thrown at him to mesmerise his audience. "My adoration and passion for music seemingly touched and unlocked doors of opportunities. I have my Botswana top deejays in the likes of DJ Chabo, FME DJs, Chrispin Da Drummer, DJ Eddie, DJKSB and DJ Anthem who are a source of inspiration to me. I started my music journey in 2010 performing with a DVD player because I did not have equipment then.

I was highlighting how the voyage started. I met an entertainment mogul in Kanye, The Library Bar owners namely DJ Ribo & DJ Stu and Laone Morebodi affectionately known as Dilaoza of Dilaoza Entertainment who recruited and groomed me to become a song bird of world class," he proudly stated. Furthermore, he said as creatives or artists in the entertainment industry, they face several challenges like delayed payments adding that being underpaid was the biggest challenge they face. He said in this day and age, people still did not recognise DJ’ing as a career especially in Botswana.

However, DJ Zoski has a few achievements and one of them is his first performance at Quthing District in Lesotho, which he says it was a thriller in a come together session in 2013 where he performed alongside one of South Africa's finest artistes, Problem Child and Thubzin Bibo Heavy Drum.

He added that some of his breakthrough moments include performances alongside South Africa's greatest musicians such as Dalom Kids, Musa Keys, Aymos, Ntando, Loyiso, Eemoh, Simmy, Master KG and Ntate Stunna. As part of his mentorship programme, he said he managed to produce an astounding female DJ, Mis J who plays Afro Tech adding that she was doing exceptionally well.

He added that in 2015, he was granted a slot on RB2 Flight 326 Show every Tuesday hosted by Captain Sean and also Club 180 Experience show on RB2 on Saturdays Hosted By Teto Tsile (Tido). He has also played on radio stations such as Duma FM and Yarona FM. He also got bookings for top events and establishments around Botswana such as The Vine Yard , Mo’s Open Table, Dros RiverWalk, Goi’s Grill, Dladleng Ammusement Park, End Of Weekend Liquor Restaurant, The Temple Lounge, Junxion Grills, Black and White Pub Maun.

The people have spoken

In fact, early election results in some areas across the country, speak to large voter turnout which suggests that voters crowded at polling stations to decide appropriately. The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) revealed that 80% of the 1,037,684 people who had registered to vote turned up to exercise their right. It’s unfortunate that at the time of cobbling this editorial comment, results had just started trickling in.
