In a country like Botswana where the arts are slowly gaining recognition, there are huge benefits to be gained from cultural exports and exchanges. The Japan Foundation continuously conducts the “Travelling Exhibitions Programme” to introduce Japanese arts and culture to foreign countries. Mmegi Staffer MOMPATI TLHANKANE recently visited Thapong Art Gallery to get a taste of the cultural side of Japanese art with memorable clarity.

Twenty permanent Japanese art exhibitions are on the road throughout the year, appearing in over 100 art galleries, museums and cultural facilities around the world. For the first time, Thapong Visual Arts Centre in Gaborone has been the beneficiary of this memorable exhibition.

The travelling exhibition that ended this week included a wide range of traditional Japanese beauty such as ceramic art and craft.
