The annual St Louis Fresh Fest officially kick-started the festive season on Saturday in front of an estimated crowd of 8,000.

The festival, which has branded itself as an afternoon event, rather than an all-night music festival, once again had the main attractions begin their performances in the early afternoon.

By 2:30pm it was South African multi-award winner AKA on stage.  The Congratulate singer who was playing his set with a live band belted some of his chart-topping singles to the half-full Gaborone Cricket Club.

His performance, however, was not as feisty as one would have hoped. AKA did not bring his A-game on Saturday receiving a lukewarm reception from his fans.

His competition, and the man he has been beefing with for years, Cassper Nyovest had Gaborone Cricket Club eating out of the palm of his hands.

The man who just filled up Orlando Stadium enjoyed his set so much that he literally endorsed St Louis by opening a can and having a sip of the locally brewed beer whilst on stage.

He later tweeted: “I wanna do a stadium in Botswana next year. The national stadium to be exact. Would y’all come?”

In an interview, Cassper Nyovest told Showbiz: “It’s always great being here. The crowd is always amazing. They interact and sing along to every song.  It’s not like back in Joburg where they just stare at you.  With Botswana its always love, and I love that”.

The St Louis Fresh Fest has branded itself as one of the go-to events in Botswana, and with so much anticipation prior to the event, it was disappointing to have sound interruptions in the middle of performances.

Cassper Nyovest left the stage halfway through his Doc Shebeleza hit song, which proved to be one of his most preferred tracks, evident by the loud cheers from the crowd.  The song interruption was possibly caused by the problematic sound system.

Afrikan Roots also had to stop their performance midway through their set because of the sound problems.  Besides the sound problems the event once again impressed with most local celebrities spotted at the event.

Vee Mampeezy who will be launching his latest album, I Do, on December 10 closed the night in style.  His songs such as Letlhale, Zaza and Taku Taku amongst others brought the fun-filled St Louis Fresh Fest to an epic end.

The minister further shared that from the 320 businesses that notified the Commissioner of Labour about their plans to retrench, 20 were acceded to, which resulted in 204 workers being retrenched during April 2020 and July 2021.The retrenchments were carried out while the SoE was in place, meaning the companies that succeeded must have had solid reasons, despite the strict SOE regulations imposed on businesses to not retrench.
