ATI speaks one last time through 'Box Office' :: Mmegi Online

Some albums arrive as introductions while others arrive as statements. Box Office, ATI’s posthumous third studio album, arrives with the weight of a final word: an 18-track body of work that makes his absence impossible to ignore while somehow making his presence impossible to miss.

On September 17, friends, collaborators and some of Botswana’s biggest names in music gathered at the UB Hotel to hear the album for the first time, ahead of its official release on September 28; ATI’s birthday.

The listening party offered an intimate preview of a project that feels remarkably complete. There are no guest features across its 18 tracks, allowing ATI’s voice, writing and production choices to occupy the entirety of the album. Mixed and mastered by fellow rapper and longtime ATI collaborator Veezo View, Box Office is arguably ATI at his most structured, cohesive and sonically mature. ATI had been working consistently on the album for years before his untimely passing, and that patience seems to have paid off.
