Maun International Youth Expo On The Cards

PAULINE DIKUELO
A youthful duo, Oarabile Baisi and Letang Letshabo, has organised the inaugural Maun Youth in Business exposition aimed at giving entrepreneurs in Ngamiland exposure to local and international markets and explore strategies to penetrate them.

Speaking to Business Monitor, one of the exhibition’s organisers, Letshabo, said they felt that entrepreneurs in the northern part of the country were not given enough exposure despite their potential.

The expo is to start from August 1-3.

“We feel Maun has been isolated despite the fact that the place is rich in culture, tourism and mining tourism as well. We want to revive the place businesswise, expose it to potential business people as well as showcase the opportunities that are available,” she said.  According to Letshabo, the purpose of the expo is to position the tourism sector as a valued significant sector that does not only boost the country’s economy but also improves people’s lives. Letshabo said the main objective of the three-day exposition is to close the gap between sectors and communities by creating interactive platforms for all. The exhibition will be open to everyone including both small entrepreneurs and corporates.

Exhibitors will include different sectors from mining, agriculture, fashion, travel and tourism, food and drinks, processing, as well as sports. There will be a series of events

at the expo including discussions about the potential markets for small entrepreneurs, ways of having a sustainable business, overcoming challenges, financial literacy just to mention a few.

“The reason behind the exposition is to bring all sectors together under one roof, encourage mutual relations as partnerships are crucial for growth. You will find that most of these businesses need each other to penetrate the market and together they can go far,” she said. Further Letshabo anticipated that the expo would bring great change in the development of sectors thus improve sector relations.

On the first day, there will be presentations and discussions on relevant topics at the expo. The second day the expo will continue with themed sessions including climate change, tourism, conservation, and biodiversity and resource development.

“This would encourage young entrepreneurs to fit their world into a decision-making or policy framework, ensuring that they attempt to translate their results into a bigger picture for the tourism sector. These sessions will be augmented by presentations from the business gurus, industry players and indigenous leaders,” Letshabo said.
