Flamingoes within reach of elusive Premiership goal

PALAPYE: Sua Flamingoes are 270 minutes of football away from achieving the ever-elusive dream of playing top-flight football. Flamingoes are favourites to secure a playoffs berth in the Debswana First Division North. Their nearest rivals, Motlakase Power Dynamos are a point below.

Flamingoes are home to Great North Tigers and have dominated the Francistowners since their debut season in the second tier league.  The teams met five times in the league with Flamingoes winning three, while the other two matches ended in a draw.

The Sowa side scored 10 against three for GNT. At any given day, this encounter will be a walk in the park for the Sowa outfit. However, it will be a demanding encounter and mental strength will be vital. Flamingoes have a great appetite for goals. They have scored 13 goals in their last four wins and will have themselves to blame if they let slip. All odds are against their opponents who are winless in the last four games. Flamingoes made their promotion goals clear since making their debut in 2015/2016.  They controlled the league the entire first round only to trip at the final hurdle and finish third in their first season. They finished

third again last season.

As they chase their dream, sponsor, BOTASH has committed a lot of resources, but thus far, luck has eluded the team.

They made major technical team and squad overhaul at the beginning of the season. Amongst other big footballing names, they roped in Mooketsi ‘China’ Mading into the technical team and hired Dominic Changwe as coach. Mading has masterminded a number of promotions at FC Satmos and Changwe led Orapa United to the premiership, just one season after the club was formed. Flamingoes have assembled a squad that, on paper, is the best in the league and their attack has been the most potent. If they play to the script, Flamingoes will earn a chance to face Philimon Makhwengwe’s Prisons XI in the two-legged promotional playoffs. Motlakase will pray GNT live to their tag as the draw masters. Chouka will be out in Mahalapye against Mahalapye United Hotspurs in a must win encounter.
