Mokhobo Wins FWB Show

Fashion designer, Tumi Mokhobo is the winner of the fourth annual Fashion Without Borders (FWB) show, which was held at Avani Resort and Casino on Friday. Her designs outclassed 19 others.

The show highlighted exactly how current fashion trends are predicted by moods, behaviour and the buying habits of a consumer at a particular time.

A total of 14 fashion designers from Botswana and six internationals from neighbouring Zimbabwe and South Africa showcased their versatile collections.

Designers came up with interesting and unique designs, something that made the competition tough.

The fashion extravaganza once again captured the attention of fashion lovers across the continent.

For the first time, the experience included Pop-up stalls at Avani Resort and Casino. It also included a display of fashion stalls, exhibition and runway show and provided an opportunity for local designers to interact with local designers from across Southern Africa.

Despite showcasing good collections from different designers on stage, the fashion show started very late.

The designers took centre stage to display their interpretation of fashion design in Botswana and the rest of Africa, in an effort to raise awareness on local fashion consumption.

There was also an exhibition and kiddies show,

which preceded the main fashion show. The judges on the night were fashion experts, Ramoetse Tshabalala, who is past winner of FWB, a rep from Mr Price and Palesa Mokubung who is a renowned designer.

Notable designers included Opelo Lesake of Wabi Sabi whose showcase featured urban to corporate clothing, formal and informal attires, Lesego Mmolawa of Lenita Fashions who specialises in customised clothing and dye products.

Florance Raditsweng of FEURA designs and manufactures of male and female fashion garments, sports and casual wear including jackets, shirts, dresses, tracksuits, team play kit, replicas and protective overalls also impressed on the night.

Mokgobo’s designs were the most impressive on the night. They were simple and covered different avenues of fashion from formal, casual to African prints.

The designs had a variety of dresses, blouses, blazers and shirts in different colours. Osego Mutumba was voted best model in the Kiddies show, while Thanolo Keutlwile won the best model in the main fashion show.
