The sky's the limit in movie boom

The filming of Alexander McCall Smith's novel-turned movie, No.1 Lady's Detective Agency, in Botswana has raised hopes for increased tourism, according to Minister of Tourism, Kitso Mokaila, who jests that the Hollywood style undertaking 'could trigger the population of Botswana to double or triple due to tourists' influx'.

Addressing a press conference early this week, he revealed that in 2005 alone, the number of tourists to Botswana equalled the population of the country, and urged   the hospitality industry to expand and improve its service to stand up to the imminent challenges.

At the briefing, the CEO for the Botswana Tourism Board, Myra Sekgororoane said that Botswana would benefit from the movie just as other countries have benefited, citing the shooting of 'Lord of the Rings' in New Zealand which prompted an annual tourist influx jump by 40 per cent.
