FRANCISTOWN: There was a time when shaking a friend's hand was the most natural thing, or when a child curtsied before a distinguished visitor and shakily offering its hands to be grasped and smothered with good-natured kisses.

To everyone, shaking hands has always been second to nature. It could be in greeting, or as a sign of respect after someone had performed a heroic act, or when a groundbreaking agreement has been reached between two parties.

The fact that a handshake is part of every day life could be attributed to the fact that when someone is given a huge sum of money when they retire or when they are kicked out of their job, he/she is said to be given a golden handshake.
