The bother of morning traffic

Trying to reach my work place in Block 7 at 8am from Tlokweng is always an uphill task on weekdays unless I set off at 7am.

Normally, the trip takes 10 to 15 minutes without traffic jams. I am one of those people who have been lured to Tlokweng due to the high cost of accommodation in Gaborone.

However, I had not considered the traffic blues that I have to contend with each morning. The village is heavily populated and this means that traffic jams at peak hours are common. I wonder if I will ever get used to it.  The jam is worse when haulage trucks to and from are on the road. There is no much room to move when you find yourself cramped between two haulage trucks on the Zeerust road that passes through the village to the border from the city centre. Thankfully, the road is being enlarged to accommodate more traffic. Certainly there has been remarkable progress since last week because the steel bars on the bridge near Riverwalk are a notch-up. I am thinking what utter bliss it will be when I am able to drive along a dual carriageway on this road, because surely that is what they are building. In the meantime, I have to remember to be alert as I pass the bridge just in case one of those cranes has a malfunction or something. One morning during the jam, I noticed a Combi driver trying to snake up behind the Mazda Millennia in front of me and decide to give him room. Combi drivers are certainly a law unto themselves and hardly ever take heed of the rules of the road. The upgrading of Zeerust Road does not make it any better because they have suddenly discovered that there are no 'legal stops' to drop off passengers. They have resorted to dropping passengers wherever they please.
