Last week, Botswana hosted a special summit of the Interfaith Action for Peace in Africa (IFAPA). Members of IFAPA are drawn from seven major faith traditions working together for peace and human rights on the African continent, namely African Traditional Religions (ATRs), the Baha'i Faith, Buddhism, Christianity, Hinduism, Islam and Judaism.
The summit was a sight to behold as members from these faiths gathered under one roof, calling one another brother and sister. Each delegate was treated as an equal and every religion represented was duly recognised.
This call is both timely and crucial, as it reflects a growing need for unity and collaboration amongst media bodies to address pressing issues facing the nation.The theme of this year’s Press Freedom Day, “A Press for the Planet: Journalism in the Face of the Environmental Crisis,” resonates deeply with Batswana, particularly in light of the ongoing human and wildlife conflict.
