Nyeku: Turning slums into homes

As Francistown struggles to shed its ghetto image, the city's new Mayor believes it would help the effort if the residents duly paid their service levies and property rates, correspondent GALE NGAKANE reports

FRANCISTOWN: Shadrack Nyeku should have been the one who wrote the memoirs The Monarch Of All I Survey; not the colonial egotist, Charles Rey, who took pleasure in denigrating all who crossed his path, including fellow colonial administrators.

Nyeku, of course, is the new Mayor of Francistown and Councillor for Phillip Matante Ward in Francistown South who has succeeded the hulking Buti Billy, now an ordinary councillor for Satellite South, in the mayoralty.
